Rwanda, Africa -

River's Promise operates to help orphans, vulnerable children, & widows in Rwanda.  This beautiful country in central Africa is where River Lakey was born.  As a newborn, River was found in a ditch in a rainstorm around 11:00pm in the Gikondo Sector of Kigali, Rwanda.  It was early December 2004.  River's life was saved by a widow who found him and took him into her home for the night. After a few days, he was taken to an orphanage where he lived until his adoption.  

Upon adopting River, Jimmy Lakey committed to take care of as many children as possible in Rwanda who remained stuck in extreme poverty without the opportunities that would now be afforded to River.  Jimmy promised his son that his earliest friends would not be forgotten in Rwanda.  This was the birth of "River's Promise" and our commitment to Rwanda.
